Alcohol is a depressant, which can disrupt the balance of neurotransmitters in our brains and affect our feelings, thoughts and behaviour. If you want to cut down on your drinking, avoid situations where you’re tempted to drink.
If you usually socialise in the pub, think about other activities you could enjoy with friends: going to the cinema, doing an activity together or trying an evening class.
Changing your habits can be tough. Talking to people you trust about your plans may help you change. They can encourage you along the way and keep you company if you’re using exercise or other tactics to help you cope.
Being alcohol-free for 31 days shows us that we don’t need it to have fun, to relax, or to socialise.
It helps us learn the skills we need to manage our drinking and vastly improves our mental health, anxiety and motivation.
The Wolfpack Project have decided to hold a fundraiser in conjunction with the month of sobriety, whereby you can donate the cost of a drink. Your donation will help young people access the services they desperately need, helping them feel less isolated, and better deal with their mental health struggles. Throughout the month on our social media channels, we will be giving you some great tips and advice on giving up alcohol and all the many benefits that come with it.
